Why two moves with the same room count cost different amounts
A two-bedroom bungalow with a driveway and a two-bedroom unit on the eleventh floor of a downtown condo hold roughly the same furniture, but they are not the same job. Stairs, elevator wait times, carry distance from the truck to the door, and the number of items that need disassembly all change how long a move takes — and time is what you are paying for.
That is why we ask about your floor, your elevator, your parking and your inventory before quoting. Once we know those, we can commit to a fixed price instead of starting a clock.
The factors that move the price most
- Volume: how much there actually is, including basements, garages, lockers and balconies.
- Stairs: every flight adds carry time, and stair-only walk-ups need a larger crew.
- Elevators: booked service elevators keep a move fast; shared passenger elevators slow it down.
- Parking and carry distance: a truck at the door is far quicker than one two hundred feet away.
- Packing: whether you pack yourself, want a partial pack of the kitchen and fragiles, or want everything done for you.
- Specialty items: pianos, safes, oversized sectionals, artwork and appliances need extra equipment.
- Disposal and storage: items being removed or stored between closings are quoted separately.
Flat rate versus hourly
With an hourly rate, every delay is billed to you: a slow elevator, a blocked loading dock, traffic on the Gardiner, a piece of furniture that has to come apart. With a flat rate, the price is agreed before the truck arrives and those risks sit with us.
A flat rate only works if the quote is accurate, so the more detail you send — room-by-room list, floor, elevator, parking — the more precise the price. If your inventory changes significantly before moving day, tell us and we will re-quote rather than surprise you on the invoice.
What is included
Our quotes include the truck, the crew, fuel, floor and doorway protection, blanket wrapping, basic disassembly and reassembly, and liability coverage. Packing materials and labour, storage and junk removal are priced separately so you only pay for what you use.
How to get an accurate quote quickly
Send a room-by-room list, your moving date, both addresses with postal codes, the floor and elevator situation at each end, and anything oversized or fragile. That is enough for us to return a fixed price, usually the same day.
