A four-week Toronto moving checklist

Four weeks before

• Confirm your date and get a written flat-rate quote based on a room-by-room inventory.
• Ask your building (both ends) about move windows, elevator booking, deposits and insurance requirements.
• Decide what is not coming with you and book furniture removal or donation pickup.
• Order packing materials, or book packing help if you would rather not do it yourself.

Two weeks before

• Start with what you do not use daily: storage rooms, closets, books, off-season clothing, the garage.
• Arrange utilities, internet and mail forwarding for the new address.
• Update your address with your bank, insurer, employer, doctor and Service Ontario.
• Confirm your elevator window in writing and send us your property manager's contact.

The week before

• Pack room by room and label every box with its destination room, not just its contents.
• Empty the balcony, locker, shed and freezer.
• Set aside a first-night box: bedding, chargers, medication, tools, toiletries, coffee.
• Confirm parking at both ends, and reserve a spot for the truck where the street is permit-only.

Moving day

• Be ready before the crew arrives; the window starts whether you are packed or not.
• Walk the crew through the home and flag anything fragile or not going.
• Keep documents, keys and valuables with you rather than on the truck.
• Do a final check of every closet, cupboard and the dishwasher before you hand over keys.

After the move

Unpack the kitchen and bedrooms first — they make the home usable fastest. If you would rather skip it, our crews can unpack, place furniture and remove all the empty boxes and packing paper the same day.
